SATELLITE is a five day STEM outreach and leadership development program with the goal of exposing high school sophomores across underserved communities in North Carolina to STEM careers and post-secondary educational opportunities. The program this year will run from May 9th through the 13th. The application requires two letters of recommendation and a few short essays pertaining to the student’s interest in STEM. Due to the nature of the program, we do not consider a student’s academic success when reviewing applications. We are looking only for a student’s desire to maximize their experience at SATELLITE. The deadline to apply is February 28th, 2020. The program costs $30, but a limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
"I would like to be in S.T.E.M. because it was challenging and I like to be challenged. I think it really helped me think better and be better at school. Every time I wake up I used not want to go to school but because of S.T.E.M. now I do".
"I have been in STEM for a year now, and it has pushed me to be a better student. The grand challenges and being a Jr STEM ambassador has pushed me to become a better student and person in general. I want to continue to push myself to the best of my ability".
